The foundation installation commenced in the summer of 2004 and the erection of the turbines began in April 2005. Commissioning of the entire wind farm took place in September 2005.

The construction of the Kentish Flats wind farm involved suitable marine contractors for each of the main onshore and offshore components.

The offshore turbine structures has three main components:
The foundation The turbine towerThe nacelle including rotor
The turbine components was pre-assembled at the quayside and subsequently placed on a vessel, transported to the area and mounted on the pre-installed foundations using large cranes.

The actual erection took place in 3 stages:

Generally Elsam conducts muliti-project contracts involving at lot of subcontractors in connction with offshore wind projects. However the agreement Elsam has made with Vestas comprises a turn key delivery, erection and commissioning of 30 offshore wind turbines of 3 MW each including foundations and cabling.

Vestas is responsible for operation and maintenance during the first years.
