| Description |
The Kentish Flats offshore wind farm project was fully consented in March 2003. In the first months of 2004 the final geotechnical surveys were carried out. Construction work on the site commenced in the summer of 2004 and was completed August 2005, with commissioning and testing of all turbines completed by September 2005.
Wind farm location The site for the Kentish Flats wind farm is a large, flat and shallow plateau just outside the main Thames shipping lanes.
The distance from the nearest turbine of the wind farm to the end of the East Quay in Whitstable is 6.2 miles or roughly 10 kilometres. From the bell tower in Herne Bay, the nearest turbine is 5.5 miles away or 8.8 kilometres.
In order to give an impression of the farm three computer-generated visualizations have been made. They illustrate how the horizon will look when the wind farm is built.
