Environmental aspects

Up to now most wind power has been land-based. However, technological advances and increasing problems in connection with obtaining permissions to erect wind turbines onshore have made the construction of offshore wind farms a competitive option.

Placing wind turbines at sea is an advantage for the environment - the power output of identical turbines is up to 25 per cent larger offshore than on land.

A detailed Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) has been produced for all of the aspects of the Kentish Flats wind farm.
